Yes, Central Oregon DOES Have Termites!

With all the wonderful things to love about Central Oregon—the trails, the climate, the waterways, the geology—turns out these conditions are not just desirable to humans but to winged, home-invading pests called termites as well.

Contrary to popular belief, termites DO live in Central Oregon, and they are of particular concern to your home’s foundation, especially if your home, barn, tiny home, or shop has a slab-on-grade foundation which are desirable to the termite species found in Central Oregon: the subterranean variety.

Subterranean termites colonize in inconspicuous places—most commonly the foundation of your home—where they tunnel through wood and insulation and make their way up cracks in the foundation or though structural wood in contact with the ground into interior walls and wood.

Many people believe because we are in a high desert climate, they don’t have to worry about termites, but in reality, it is estimated that termites live in 70 percent of all households worldwide! Wherever wood and moisture exists, termites are a possibility!

Termite mitigation is key to protect your home and the faster you act, the more can be done and the less it will cost! That’s because a mature colony of termites can eat an entire 2 x 4 of lumber in only 118 days! But there are some things you can do to prevent this home invader from taking over your valuable home asset.

First, detection is key. If you are ever digging around your home or foundation and find these winged little opaque creatures, call us to mitigate immediately. They often congregate around the foundation, water heater, plumbing, or wet places where wood or insulation meets soil.

If detected, we can create a slushy mud-chemical mixture around the perimeter of you home that creates an active barrier for several years. We can also give you advice on mitigating the problem with natural barriers, or if the problem is all the way into your home, we can drill into the foundation and inject treatment into the foundation with a guarantee against their return.

If you are unable to check for these pests yourself, or don’t know what to look for, give us a call! We are experts at finding common hiding places for these pests and can help detect their presence and the source of the problem so we can mitigate it.
